Employee Spotlight: May Pierre

May Pierre – The Heart Behind Our Payables Process

At Boston Retail Solutions, we believe every team member brings something unique and powerful to the table—and May, from our Accounting team, is a perfect example of that. Known for her warm personality, attention to detail, and unmistakable green thumb outside the office, May plays a vital role in keeping our vendor relationships running smoothly and our payments on track.

Plants Her Journey to BRS

May joined BRS in February 2023 in her current role, Accounting Specialist – Accounts Payable.

Born and raised in the Philippines, May moved to the U.S. at 21 and has called Florida home ever since (aside from a brief year in California). She received accounting degrees in both the Philippines and the U.S., and it’s clear her passion for numbers and precision has continued to stick with her throughout her career!

She found BRS through a local recruiter, Robert Half, starting in a temporary role. After just a few weeks at BRS, it was quickly obvious to both parties that she was a permanent fit!

A Day in May’s Life

May is an essential part of our finance team focusing on and accountable for Accounts Payable. For those that don’t get to interact with May often, that means she’s makes sure that all vendors and expenses get paid!

Every subcontractor, material supplier and invoice gets reviewed and ultimately paid by the AP team, with May at the lead! That’s right, with Ellen's assistance, she physically prints and mails every – single – check, which can be 100-150 checks per week!

A few more of her responsibilities include:

  • Review vendor applications and cross checking all new Subcontractors in NetSuite.
  • Ensure subcontractors have all necessary documents on file like W-9s, COIs, NDA’s and other compliance documents on file.
  • Handle invoice processing and subcontractor P.O.s
  • Manages weekly check selections and payments
  • Supports vendor payments by credit card in both the U.S. and Canada
  • And much more!

Every Thursday is “Selection Day,” where May reviews the unpaid vendor invoices and determines which vendors get paid, then prints and mails the checks. As she puts it with a smile, “You better be nice to me… or your payment might have to wait!” (We think she’s mostly joking.)

She also works closely with Ellen Rodin (photo'd above), another one of our Accounting colleagues with AP responsibilities, who also helps support and cover for May when needed – an example of the collaborative and supportive environment our Accounting team has!

Outside the Office

When the workday ends, May heads home to her “other job”: taking care of her five dogs and three daughters (including 6-year-old twins and a 13-year-old). But one of her biggest passions? Plants.

May has been deeply involved in the plant world for over four years. She owns a collection of rare and exotic indoor plants, including some from Thailand, and even has a personal greenhouse. One of her prized plants is worth $1,200, and she propagates, repots, and decorates her home with the rest.

Outside of plants, May loves decorating for Christmas and has previously had a hobby of collecting toys! But now, her house is a thriving jungle of hybrids and florals, including her favorite: Florida Beauty plants.

What She Loves About BRS

May’s favorite part of the job is running payments and talking directly to vendors—many of whom have come to know her personality and her professionalism. Her relationships with them help strengthen BRS’s reliability and responsiveness.

When asked about challenges, May reflects that while no part of the job feels too difficult, communication and tying up all the loose ends can sometimes take extra care. But it’s clear she thrives on solving problems, staying organized, and making sure everything gets done right.

Mays Family
May’s mix of reliability, wit, and warmth makes her a valued part of the BRS family. Whether she’s cutting checks or caring for houseplants, she brings energy and care to everything she does.

Thank you, May, for keeping us growing—both financially and figuratively! 🌱
